The TV screen in summer vacation has been always an intensely competitive market place. In this summer, the competition was even fiercer, due to a series of newly issued limitations on China's entertainment industry.
Yet under such circumstance, Love and Destiny has got a surprisingly good result. On the Chinese website Douban for reviews, this fantasy drama has reached a score of 8.0 (out of 10), averaged from over 100,000 viewers. This is a remarkable score in Douban ranking system.
From 5.4 on the releasing day of July 15th, to 8.0 on September 3rd (18 days after the finale), Love and Destiny has been proven to be significantly underestimated, and gained good reputation together with a large number of fans from both domestic and overseas.
Love and Destiny is mainly about a beautiful romance. As the God of Wars, Jiuchen has been fighting with the dark force for thousands of years, until he falls in love with Lingxi, the one and only person who could bring the late Dark Lord back to life. What should Jiuchen do? Is there a certain answer?
Indeed, this is a bittersweet story. However it tells more than that -- personal growth, value dilemma, inner peace, the devil inside……and so on. The more audiences have been experienced in their own life, the more they could get from this drama, and the more they would love it.
Another charm comes from lens language, which is full of classic oriental beauty, throughout architecture, furnitures, decorations, costumes, etc. Every single shot could be used as wallpaper. The director Lum Yuk and her team are undoubtedly top experts in this particular field.
Nothing is perfect. However in this case, the story, casting and vision effects are so great that could overshadow any shortcomings. It has brought biggest surprise this summer and will become a classic work in the following years for sure.
