Who doesn’t love Greta? (and Saoirse, Timmy, Garrel...) Even EW is not so annoying in this film. A exquisitely produced costume drama/adaptation that’s enjoyable to watch. Just noticed that it employs the same approach as most of the New Wave period films: focusing on interiors and majorly suburb exteriors.
However, it is a bit problematic with the headwear of characters, according to my recent research. If I get this correct, it is a story whose timeline is loosely across the American Civil War. As Hats should work as a marker in time, at first I was confused and assumed it happens across 1910s to 1920s. Many of the narrow-brimmed Edwardian hats appear in the film actually only appeared after 20th century. And the hat that Jo wears at the publisher in the end is a cloche, which is a classical type of hat in the 1920s. Did they changed the time setting? Otherwise I’m still confused.
