I am just gonna write down my thoughts randomly before it all goes away.

To be honest, there more than a few times during the film when I want to just get the fuck out of the theatre and go home to sleep. But afterwards when I thought about why. Probably because this is my 4th film today and I have been cold and tired the whole afternoon. More possible, I have been watching so many “American film” (not necessarily from America, but the “exciting style” ) it’s been hard for me to really watch anything that is not that “exciting” anymore. Desensitized I would say. Like after eating too much spicy food, can’t really taste anything subtle anymore.

It is actually an brilliant film. The shots are almost unusual in mainstream theatre. Still shots, portrait like close ups, far far away shot. Muted color. Natural city setting. Reminds me “too much” about boring everyday life that leads to my losing interest constantly. People who walking through cameras without knowing they are in a film. Just so mundane and too real! Same as the sound work! Cars driving, people talking... really distracting and even annoying. (This seems so intentional that I almost hated the filmmaker for it but turned out to be just an “accident” : the sound guy was sick and it was some punk musicians who did the sound and it was “not very good” according to the director) .

It’s so interesting how the audience and filmmaker view the same work so differently. Not only intention vs. accident, coincides vs. hidden meaning ( the reoccurring joke that the characters keep forgetting titles of films and music was after all just joke! Not criticizing people spend too much time on their device!) Also the overall theme. While the audience, even the programmer sees cyber security and technology. The director was just interested in how people act in interpersonal conversations. Like important info coming up in just everyday conversation. It’s almost strange and bazaar when you really think about it. It happens everyday. It’s happening right now. It’s just we are so used to it. It’s hard to notice anymore. Again, desensitized. This makes me think about someone talked about arts that they make you to SEE the things you watch everyday that you don’t see them anymore. The question normality. The refuse to “get used to things” and criticize the notion of “normal” or mundane.

The director is so funny and intellectual that makes me want to go study in Europe!
