This is irresistibly amorous: two girls, both of which are accidentally rich and talented, blurt out quips whenever it's necessary, with heartachingly celestial faces and a father with a liberal attitude to gays. A couple like this must be disproportionately rare in reality, and that is the reason of the movie's existence. 9 out of 10 viewers would readily criticize the film as shallow, at the same time, 100 percent of them saluted to the director for the sake of the bewitching chemistry triggered between the two sexy goddesses. I guess that's another reason accounts for the popularity of pornography without any dramatizing at all. What we see is a typical lesbo hustle: hot actresses, spectacular sights such as those in Cambridge, baffling, intangible and unspeakable long-term indifference to men until the first meet with Ms. right, unavoidable shagging, unescapable and torturing coming out stories, the within-everyone's-expectation happy ending with both of the love birds taking reproduction into consideration. Under such kind of script, everything is under control, for it's not hard to figure out what's next from our profuse empirical experience procured from a considerable amount of dyke dramas. However, paradoxically, don't you think things are getting out of hands? The pace of the movie proceeds in such a hectic way in which we sent astronauts to the moon. If Tala were a man, we probably would find, in the ending, he and Leyla's children running around in the yard, playing truant.
That's a harsh critique I gave there, afterall Shamim Sarif is a gay writer who also wanted to do something, like Sarah waters did,to entertain the lesbo community nearly drowning in the man-woman-type love scenarios on TV and literature for sell. However, I just think she could have done it more tastefully as Sarah waters; pay more attention to the plot and deeper emotional roller coaster similar to those she arranged in "The world unseen",e.g. to hinge the whole plot on the discrepancies between Leyla and Tala's ethnic and religious backgrounds, which dispelled immediately after their second meet and being innately gay seems too ostensible a reason to explain their ephemeral contention. Confession, the actresses are hot, but that can't make a story itself and that's not the only reason for anyone to be gay. In conclusion, to anchor the out-of-hand scenario to the ground, more psychological or emotional nuances should be displayed in the movie rather than the hilarious though fluffy parlor-maid with a hobby to spit into her mistress's goblet. The pity is that I Can't Think Straight is neither that voluptuous as The L World nor so functional and serious as The World Unseen, putting a dilemma at most viewers when they were asked to give their remarks, which always seem like "so-so, but the women are hot".
